Economie

De economie van Namibië wordt gedomineerd door mijnbouw (diamanten en uranium), veeteelt en visserij. Maar ook toerisme vormt een steeds grotere bron van inkomsten. Voor Afrikaanse standaarden is Namibië een redelijk welvarend land, hoewel schaarste soms ook voorkomt, voornamelijk in perioden van extreme droogte.

Het bruto-nationaal product is twee keer het gemiddelde van alle Afrikaanse landen. Maar liefs 80% van de goederen wordt momenteel geïmporteerd, voornamelijk vanuit Zuid-Afrika. Gemiddeld inkomen per hoofd van de bevolking is ongeveer US$ 2.000 per jaar.
